Kara's List - Last Week of November 2019

Happy (early) Thanksgiving! Most likely, your next month will consist of lots of cooking, eating, entertaining and visiting with your family & friends. You may even have a couple of holiday parties this upcoming weekend and you are probably thinking “what do I bring?!”.

This week, I am sharing some of my favorite gifts to give the hostess. You may be used to gifting a nice bottle of wine or champagne but here are some ideas of how to switch it up! My selections below are gifts that your hostess can use at the party or something that can be put to good use once everyone leaves.

Enjoy…

ONE - Pick up some beautiful flowers and arrange them in this crinkle bag vase. The texture and unique concept of this vase make it something special!

TWO - These dish towels, paired with a delicious charcuterie board, would be great gift combo! The neutral tones of this towel allow your hostess to use them all winter long, not just during the holidays.

THREE - Only go this route if the hostess loves cooking ;). What chef wouldn’t love this leather bound cookbook?!

FOUR - Write the hostess a thoughtful thank you in this card and put a gift certificate to her favorite store, spa or restaurant in the inside.

FIVE - This candle scent is ideal for the holiday season! If you’re feeling a little more generous, check out the gift packages that this company offers… here!

SIX - My kind of lantern, featuring hand blown glass, tanned leather and brass screws. This centerpiece will be sure to win over your hostess and the rest of the party!

SEVEN - This gift is fitting for all! Give it to the chef that needs spices right by her side while cooking or hand it to the hostess that prefers her party catered, but needs some salt and pepper to add that finishing touch!

EIGHT - I’ve never been to a holiday party where I am not greeted with a glass of wine & a cheese board. This contemporary, stainless steel knife set will be put to good use at your party!

Kara's List - Third Week of November 2019

Happy Wednesday! This past week, I’ve been working on a mudroom renovation and realized that it is usually a high traffic space that often gets overlooked. A mudroom with a great design has cabinetry that hides away your “stuff” and then introduces other materials (cabinet hardware, countertop, fabric, flooring, lighting, rugs, wall covering etc.) to add charm, texture and depth. Although I am a big proponent of tucking away the “stuff” to create a clean look, some things are meant to be displayed.

Here are some of my favorite mudroom accessories that are meant to show off!

ONE - The chunkiness of a woven basket is a perfect way to add warmth into your mudroom, while simultaneously hiding away your kid’s shoes or toys. This jute basket comes in five color options, shown in gray above, and the dusty rose is another favorite of mine.

TWO - Ah! I am all about a touch of leather, especially on hardware. These wall hooks give you the option to hang your coats on the round, light beechwood hook or you can place your scarf through the leather loop strap.

THREE - Yes, I am aware its freezing outside but I can’t help shopping for items that remind me of hot, summer days! This handwoven, natural cornhusk tote would hang beautifully on the leather hooks (click here for number two). This bag also comes in a black or melon fringe strap.

FOUR - Every mudroom needs a door mat. Go basic and let your flooring material or area rug be the star!

FIVE - Love me a hat! This company has so many amazing choices but I was drawn to this one in particular. The rich brown straw, mixed with the monochromatic suede strap makes me feel like I could pull it off year round. Plus, a hat is a great accessory to hang in your mudroom!

SIX - This company’s raincoats are too good to not share! I have been a fan for years and I can’t get enough of the feminine silhouette. Light sand (what is shown above), potato and khaki green are my top color picks but if those aren’t your tones, don’t fret, you’ve got thirteen other color choices!

SEVEN - Here is a visually appealing way to hang up your “to do list” of family chores!

EIGHT - These boots have been in my “saved” posts on my Instagram feed for years. I prefer short rain booties over tall so these are ideal in my book. The bow on the back adds a glamorous, dainty detail, that I am all for!

Kara's List - Second Week of November 2019

Happy Wednesday! The holidays are approaching which means it’s time to entertain. For this week’s list, I wanted to give you a full look at what could be your table decor on Thanksgiving. All eight picks are meant to work together to create a complete design vision.

Let me know what you think and I’d be happy to do a similar post, with different picks, closer to Hanukkah and Christmas!

ONE - The woven seagrass on these highball glasses adds texture and warmth to your table scape. They are ideal for a hot summer day but are a pleasant surprise when hosting a Thanksgiving dinner. Go with the unexpected!

TWO - The smaller scale burgundy, checkered pattern on these napkins pairs beautifully with the larger scale plaid for your dessert plate (check out number four)! This company has a matching tea towel and table runner if you’re sold and want more from this collection!

THREE - The raw look of these wood slice placemats adds personality to your table. You want to make sure your table contrasts the wood tone of these placements. So, if you have a painted, neutral table (white, black or grey) you are golden; but if you have a table in a similar wood tone, add a white or ivory tablecloth to cover the table.

FOUR - A classic plaid. This dessert plate will introduce color and pattern to your table scape, while your neutral dinner plate and placemat will balance out the table setting.

FIVE - I bought these napkin rings last week and used them for a family dinner party. I usually steer clear of fake flowers and greenery but these cedar branches look as real as you can get while still being faux.

SIX - YES to the silhouette of these wine glasses.

SEVEN - Here’s your other touch of wood tones. Love these sitting next to your wooden placemats (number three).

EIGHT - If you like white and simple plates but don’t want boring, choose these! These manufactured rock plates look like pieces of sophisticated slate on your table.

Kara's List - First Week of November 2019

Happy Wednesday! Here are my top picks for the week! Enjoy…

Instagram Post November First Week .jpg

ONE - I am constantly switching up my tabletop decor! My everyday dinner plates are simplistically white and I incorporate varying colors and texture with linens, dessert plates, glassware and napkin rings. These antiqued bronze napkin rings could be used year round and I love how they are sold as a set of four, in varying herb designs!

TWO - Gray Malin’s work is amazing. I have been a fan for years and have his “Monterosso Beach, Cinque Terre II” piece hanging in my office. This "Vacation at The Beverly Hills Hotel" print is classically vintage, luxurious and could set the tone for a glamorous room!

THREE - I bought this top recently and have been living in it ever since. Buy it and you will understand!

FOUR - Now that it’s getting cold outside, I make sure to always have a candle burning the second I walk in the door. This company has the perfect variety of scents and the most appealing hand blown, glass containers. The Sea & Dune candle is a must.

FIVE - Like I’ve said before, you can never have too many tabletop items. These accent plates would pair great with any solid color dinner plate!

SIX - I bought these leggings, in the quail color, this past weekend and they are so comfortable!

SEVEN - The concept of this company is genius. You can buy sets of your favorite books with modern, sleek jackets that can fit seamlessly into your home. This book set comes in greens, neutrals and brights.

EIGHT - I’ve told myself that I don’t need anymore coasters but then I came across these. I want them.
